Creating economic opportunity is a priority at the Council and all of its initiatives are designed to help an individual or family—no matter where they are—become more self-sufficient. Because every circumstance is different, Council staff works individually with community residents to assess their economic needs and, often, their personal goals and aspirations. What results is something we call the “pathway out of poverty”; an understanding of the steps to take to increase personal or family resources and economic potential.
Assessing Self-Sufficiency
A first step of the pathway out of poverty is assessing individual or family need. As funding is available, the Council offers immediate support for families experiencing a rough patch or crisis.
School Readiness and Education Development
A quality education provides a strong foundation for success later in life and is an important step on the pathway out of poverty.
Economic and Workforce Development
Eliminating barriers to job placement and job retention is critical for self-sufficiency and economic opportunity.
